Sometimes you have the pleasure of reading a book that you know is the start of something great. Neal Romriell’s debut book, Site Alpha, comes out on June 28th, and I had a chance to be an ARC reader, that is, an Advance Reader Copy.
The main character, Charlotte — Chuck for short — is part of a group called ‘the family’. They keep cryptids — creatures from our folk stories, such as the Loch Ness Monster, Chupacabra, and Bigfoot — hidden from everyday people. In some cases, the group keeps the general population safe… think demons, in others, they’re keeping the poor cryptids safe.
Chuck is a trainer for the group, helping new recruits learn how to become strong members for different areas of ‘the family’. She’s young for her role, but smart, sassy, and does her job well. I personally loved how she didn’t follow the rules blindly, she always questioned what she was asked to do, and why the rules were there.
Neal is working on a sequel to Site Alpha as well as a fantasy book loosely based on D&D, dungeons and dragons for those of you not in the know. I’m hoping he rolls a 20 on that one as well!
